 Well Christmas is over and the New Year is here.

I have some things I have been working on.  

First are some hoodies for my friend Terry

He wanted these for New Years

to give to his girls in rememberance of 

his and Billie's son. 

Using the Butterfly hoodies as an inspiration

Terry asked for a change or two.

 So we are making these just perfect for his family

We have 7 white hoodies with butterflies on the sleeves

 Each a different color set.    Then................

on the back we will have an eagle with

Terry Don's name and year on it

like this

The girls all have white, Terry's is black (no he does not 

have butterflies on the sleeve, but one on the left chest).

Of course in the middle of doing this special job my machine had

to go into the shop.  She is up and running again so work is 

moving forward.

More to come on the hoodies soon.

Also have done 2 special order butterfly hoodies.

My other work is working on my Ruffled Roses quilt

this is at the stage of quilting now and it is all specialized quilting, 

not an all over design.

Warm cozy Robes

Warm Cozy Robes

Finished 4 warm cozy robes this year.

2 for us and 2 for a friend.

These are the ones I have made for Terry.

It has been hard to get a good picture so please excuse

the photography, I know I need better lighting and 

a better camera.

This is V's robe

done in black with blue accents

 The V on the front, it really is very pretty and

the robe IS black.

The lines are the front facing.

 Bluebonnets on the back, very pretty in person.

 No point in showing bad pictures of C's robe

(which is the same design as V's)

so here is the hunting design on the back

the robe which is in a mocha brown. 

I also made a pink robe for myself and

a camo one for the hubs. 

Everyone should stay warm this winter.

Embroidered Butterflies

Time for some Embroidery

Taking a little break from quilting to

decorate some hoodies.

Some butterflies for your viewing pleasure.

 Instead of just decorating the back

 I decided to add the design to the sleeve.

This required unsewing the sleeve so

it could be flat on the hoop, then sewing it

back together.

 I wanted the butterflies to fly over my shoulder, too.

Another one in black with blue and white design.

I put these into a local store, I hope they are a big hit.

Part 3 

Moving along on the borders of this quilt.

I was not sure what to do next to add the diamond border.

I did not like it right against the light grey

After considering things, I decided to add

a lime 1" border and a black 1" border.

I chose to sew them together before adding them.

Next the diamonds will be added

and another 1" black border will go on the outside.

Hummm.......this presented a problem

 I did not discover until I began sewing

                                                                 the two borders on.

Because I first sewed the borders together, they would

overlap at the corners in a way that would not work. 

After some consideration, I decided to add a corner block.

Now you can see the diamonds and how they

will line up, I believe a lime square will

go in the corner where they meet up.

That is for another day, more diamonds to sew together.

 

 

The top will measure 88 inches once the diamonds are on.

I hope to make it 96 inches square so that once it is washed

and shrinks up a little it will be close to the 90 inches wanted.

So what will the final border be?  Perhaps a piano key?  I am running out of

fabrics so will have to consider what to do next.

My latest project is for my son and daughter-in-law.

Josh and Michele

They wanted lime green, black, med grey and white.

Well this is a very lime top!

After making about 16 blocks I decided I did not like it

So something needed to happen.

 The block design is one I got from Quilters Cashe

she has tons of blocks there and all for free.  Thank you Marcia.

The pattern is called Fading Star

 

I know the colors are hard to see, 

sadly my camera is not picking them up to well.

The black has lime green dots.  What looks like yellow

is a bright, bright lime and white.  Then two different limes,

one with teal seed shape, shapes.  

 I changed it around a little because I did not like how the

fabrics I had chosen worked out.

As I mentioned I did not like the idea of a whole king

size quilt done with just those blocks soooooo

I had to figure something out.

I am a member of Craftsy.com 

and there is a class I am taking called Finishing School

by Winnie Fleming.

She teaches about making pieced borders.

Now I have done this before on my Ruffled Roses quilt 

but it never crossed my mind.

I began making borders to add to the center.

 First came a black border, next a lime border

both plain borders.

Next a 4 patch border.

Starting with a 4 patch with 1 1/2 finished squares

 Add half square triangles one in lime and one in grey

 Stack them like so and sew together to create

 this border, which will be added to the last lime border

 for this.

 Next make half square triangle squares

 which will be added thus

to create this.

What next?  I don't know yet.  

First I need to finish the other 3 sides, 

so I am off to sew.

Where oh where does the time go?  What a busy summer!

We have been coming and going, 

going and coming.

Had our oldest grandson for 2 months and

had major damage to our home from high winds.

With winter approaching it is time to prepare for

the cold and snow.

But quilting and embroidery has not stopped.

I am sorry for the long absents, I am hoping to set a

goal for myself, to post at least once a week.  

Can I do it?  Time will tell.

I want to share my current project with you.

A large embroidery order that I think you will enjoy.

These 16 x 16 micro fiber towels are for the

up coming POWDER PUFF race, which

will take place on Oct 17th.

Only ladies will be driving in this off road desert race.

Of course as you can see it is a race toward 

the cure for cancer.

 On the embroidery machine.  Love those mighty hoops

They make hooping so much easier, worth every penny.

 Completed with business card attached

Work center.  Preparing business cards, adding jute

instead of ribbon (to standard), then attaching

to the towels with safety pins.  I am going to have to buy some

more safety pins since I am using my quilting pins, is what

I had on hand.  Can not just pop over to the store from here.  :)

Each towel takes 24 minutes to stitch out and I have 300 to do.

Yep it will take a while.  I am hoping for 30 a day.

It has been a long time since I have had my machine on, so it feels

good to be working on this project.

I also did some hoodies for MORE a while back, need

to share that with you soon.   That job was a little smaller with

34 pieces, but the designs took 1 1/2 hours to stitch so it took a 

day or two to finish.  

Other jobs I am working on.

A king size quilt for my son and daughter-in-law

Finishing up on the Ruffled Roses quilt

 (just 5 years now in the works). 

Several service quilts.

This summer my quilting studio made huge strides

towards being finished and I was able to move my sewing area

up there.  Loving it.
