Snow & Ice........ Christmas Stocking Update 4

Hi All ya'll........sorry it has been so long since I shared with you. I have been working on a Beaded Poem Challenge for my Yahoo list CQI and I can't share it just yet since we will be voting on the different works submitted, so will share it once the voting is done.

Here are a couple more tidbits from the Snow & Ice Christmas Stocking.

This treatment is one I saw in Carole Samples book Treasury of Crazy Quilt Stitches on page 97 you will find all kinds of Holbein-stitch designs, this one is on the upper left of the page. The white thread came in my Treasure Club packet from Evening Star Designs and I have to confess I don't know the name of it because it has grown legs and walked off somewhere. Sigh. The blue snowflake/star is 2 strands of rayon thread, with blue and pink seed beads.

Oh BTW, want to see what came in that
Treasure Club packet from ESD.?

Clamshells and pearls. I started this with just one row of these buttonhole stitch Clamshells, but decided to add a couple more rows. Glad I did, it works great. These are done in Sassa Lynne, fine pearle cotton in parchment, which I think is on the walk with the other white thread, cause I can find it either........OY!!!!

Remember to click on the picture if you want
a closer look.

I will try to be more timely with my posts. I still have a few more things to do with the front of this stocking, then I need to go back to work on a couple of things I put aside for awhile.

Until later, God Bless

Snow & Ice........ Christmas Stocking Update 3

Update #3.

The pineapple design is one I found in Carole Sample's book Treasury of Crazy Quilt Stitches page 129. It is done in hand dyed, Sassa Lynne Perle Fine, color Serendipity. I also used this thread for the feather stitch to the right of the 'pineapple', that seam is not complete yet (I don't think) but it does have soft pink seed beads to embellish it a little. The Serendipity thread is really pretty with it blues, lavender and pink verigation. I got this thread through a thread buy with Susan Nixon on the Lace Buy list.

Just above are 2 snowflake type motifs. Threads used are Kreinik 1/16" metallics ribbon color # 9294, tacked down in the center with a sequin and crystal bead. A single strand of rayon on floss (color name unknown) creates the rest of the design topped off with cream seed beads.

Until later, God Bless.

Snow & Ice........ Christmas Stocking Update 2

Snow & Ice?? Winter Ice??

Which should I call it?

I wanted to show you the stocking
again along with
the drawing of my plans for it.
I have found that drawing
out a plan for the project is
very helpful. I know other
artist do this all the time and now
I can see why. It is freeing
as I am drawing, I can erase and try another idea.
This is not in concrete by any means but sure makes
it all flow easier if I have it pre planned.

This design, the tear drop shapes, comes from working with a long arm quilting machine. It is called a feather. The thread is hand-dyed cotton by Caron, their Wildflowers line in Silver Blue #159. It has very soft variations in the shades of blue, it is being used alot on this project. The beads and charm come from the Treasure Club packet for January from Evening Star Designs.

The snow flake is one strand of silver thread, I don't remember by whom, with more beads from the ESD Treasure Club packet.

Spring is starting to show a little around here, I am getting very excited about gardening. I have had my nose buried in the seed and gardening supply catalogs. The dogs and I have started taking walks, the puppy doesn't get it yet, but Lady and I are sure enjoying it....oh the cat came alone with us today. It makes me laugh to see the cat enjoying the walk as much as we do.

Until later, God Bless.

Snow & Ice........ Christmas Stocking Update

Snow & Ice .........Christmas Stocking.

Details begin to happen on this new Christmas stocking. Buttonhole scallops will be dressed with faux pearls, they are stitched in fine pearle cotton thread by Sassa Lynn, parchment is the color. I am thinking of perhaps filling the whole area with the scallops, I will decide a little later if it will balance out right.

Here I used, Wildflowers 159 Silver Blue cotton by Caron in the herringbone stitch. With clear/crystal seed beads. I will be adding more to this as I go along, I do not feel it is finished.
Stay tuned, more to come.

Christmas Stocking #3

Starting Christmas stocking #3. No I have not finished up #2 yet, but had to get the next one going. This stocking also is for a challenge on my CQ group CQI on Yahoo.

For January the challenge is "Piecing Curves" so I have added a few pieced curves into the stocking. February's challenge is "Working with Beads", so I will be adding beautiful bead treatments, which will be perfect making it sparkle like ice crystals, I hope. LOL.

The stocking size is 7 inches across the top, 11 inches at the toe and 15 1/2 inches tall.

The fabric collection and silkies are the January Treasury Club packet from
Evening Star Design. The collection also included 3 beautiful threads, beads and buttons. I did add in a couple of fabrics (the pinks, have to have pink some place, right?) also the laces are from my stash.

I don't know yet if the back will be pieced or velvet, both are pleasing to me (one being less work in the stitching department).

Today is football, I don't do football, but a group of friends are getting together for food, and the game......so I will take my stitching to help keep myself from getting bored.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.

God Bless
