Judy's Block detail 7 and A Wedding Dress

I guess you'd say it really is details 7-11. LOL. This is the left bottom corner of the block.

The hearts are done in variegated Sassa Lynn thread, I also used Carole Samples templates to get the heart shapes just right.

Also using the templates for the diamond shapes, done in bright pink rayon thread, with soft pink seed beads added.

The rick rack, is dressed up with purple perle cotton french knots.

Finally, the 4th seam on the right is done in DMC floss, adorned with dark green seed beads.

A couple of weeks ago a wedding dress was offered to the first taker for $10.00. Well, I could not resist even though I had not seen it. So for $10.00 plus postage (another $11.00) I got this very pretty dress. Now do remember to check out the close ups.

Just look at all of that satin and lace! I wanted to share it with you all before cutting into it.

The top is just covered in lace motifs and sequins, the back is equally covered. Below is a close up of this pretty lace.

The bottom of the skirt also has a nice lace to gather for CQ work.

Also in the deal that I did not know about was this hat with lots of tule and satin roses. I think the hat will make a fun wall hanging for my studio, maybe with a little more embellishment.

I'd say I got a great deal. Just look at all of that good fabric for a little bit of nothing.

Judy's Block detail 6

Some more details on Judy's block. When there is a flower print I like to accent some of the elements of that print. Here french knots are added to the center of this flower, done in gold rayon thread, 2 strands.

Next a straight stitch to accent the middle of these pansies, I will add some beads a bit later as well. This also done in the gold rayon. Did I show the motif before, well anyway, I put it over one of the printed flowers, just to give some dimension.

Here using the same gold rayon is another seam treatment. Along with the N shaped treatment in teal, in a fine Perle by Sassa Lynne in Moody Blues. These surrounding the J in orange silk ribbon, with seed beads.

Judy's Block detail 5

Detail #5 on Judy's block. I found this design in Carole Samples
"Treasury of Crazy Quilt Stitches" page 145. Isn't a pretty seam treatment?
I know I have a couple more flowers to put on, this is done in 2 strands of
J & P Coats floss variegated, #165, colors of pink, green, yellow, blue and lavender.
This is a fun floss to use on this block, it goes so well.

New Soaps on Etsy

I have been making soap again, this time for Valentine's Day.

If your looking for a special gift for that Special Valentine on your list, this is it.

First is a creamy Rose Milk Soap, I love this soap it is so velvety on the skin and reminds me of standing in the middle of a rose garden.

Rose Geranium Soap, is fresh and smells like spring. This soap has French clay in it as well as 24K gold sparkle.

More additions to come, so check um out @ Big Horn Mountain Creations

Comfort Quilt

Look what the mail brought me. My friends from my online group Trading Fabrics have sent me hugs in this beautiful Comfort Quilt.

I am a very bless girl to be so loved by these ladies. Just look at how pretty, all in pinks and browns and hearts. To cute.

Some close ups of the different hearts.

Here are both of my comfort quilts, they are so pretty. Thank you to my friends on Quilts on Review and on Trading Fabrics for the love and hugs, this really helps fill the hole left by my Dad's passing.

Sampler Stitches & Paint

I have been wanting to dye and or paint fabric for awhile now so this aida is the result of playing.

So one day I decided to play with my fabric paints, Lumiere paints in the Halo and Jewel colors.

Taking a plastic plate, the kind you throw away. I put some water in it, dribbled the paint in the water and started dipping the aida in. Quick and easy. I did heat set them once they had dried.
Now I find working on plain aida fabric a bore, LOL.

This one (above) is a sampling of the "T" stitch

Alphabet stitches, linked

Alphabet stitches, not linked

Detatched Holbein

Finally the fan stitch

All of these will become part of my visual journal, each little sampler is 4"x6". I am taking the stitch examples from Carole Samples book Treasury of Crazy Quilt Stitches........which I understand is now available again in reprint. A really wonder resource for the stitcher.

This has been a very good exercise for me, I tend to use the same stitches over and over again, little did I know how much I have been missing.

Until later. God Bless!

Arrow Stitch

I really like how the arrow stitch dresses up this piece of lace. I keep going back to it, I think it is one of my favorite elements on Judy's block. The beads and straight stitches really dress up the feather stitch and then the buttonhole that created the fans for this seam treatment.

Remember to click for a closer view.

This block will be beginning it rounds for a RR with several of my friends. What a joy it is to have these ladies help me with the work. This is destine to be the back of a new jacket, for me. Grin.

Judy's Block

Happy New Year to All.

I know I am a bit late in posting, the flu/cold bug have been visiting my house, today is the first day I have felt like something other then a lump of yick.

I want to share with you some progress I have made on Judy's block.

First to the center, a flower motif on top of one of the print flowers to give the work some dimension. I plan to add more french knots and some beads to enhance all of the flower centers. Not sure what else yet, but was looking at some glass leaves.

On this seam (the picture did not come out to great) is a zig zag lazy daisy (detached chain) in turquoise DMC floss with gold seed beads to trim.

A fan stitch with french knot, in Sassa Lynne Perle Fine, Purple Zing.

A fan in blanket stitch, cream 2 strand DMC floss with a flax pearl. I used Carole Samples template to help me get these even.

Here another buttonhole/blanket stitch (one of my personal favorites). For these seams I used rayon thread in Petal Rose, two strands. To the upper one seeds beads in turquoise are added to the points. The lower seam lazy daisy and straight stitch form the flower base for a head of gold/orange beads, representing a flower bed.

I think I have lost my mind, time will tell. Along with the stockings, sane quilt, and soaping I have planned I have joined a purse contest and a year long challenge on my CQ list, Crazy Quilting International.

I won't be able to post the progress on the purse until the voting is done, but will keep a step by step for after.

The monthly challenge I can share. For January, it is piecing either in curves or landscape. We can choose to do the alternative challenge which is "Experiment to find materials that look like or can represent snow or snowflakes. I am working with curves........I think....LOL.

That is it for right now. Oh BTW..........we are getting RAIN, ya rain! It is 41 degrees, I WANT SNOW, NOT RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAA Rain = mud, with snow the mud can be deferred to spring. Grin.

Happy 2008

Happy New Year to everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. I wanted to share some family pictures with you.

Alyssa (DSD), Michele (DDIL), Letha (DMIL), myself, Samantha (DD) and Destiny (DGD)

Everette (DFIL), Codey (GS #5), Josh (DS), Kirk (DH), Andy (DSIL),
Tristan (GS#2), Brandyn (GS#3), Konner (GS#4), Bryce (GS#1)

It was so wonderful to spend time with our children and grandchildren, and Kirk's parents. What a blessed time it was. We also spent time with Kirk's sister Yolanda and family, and our good friends Gilbert and Cathy. We could not have asked for a better Christmas.

The new year, I hope, will be a good one. We are looking forward to spending Christmas here in Wyoming next year with all our loved ones. We have alot to do to prepare for Christmas 2008 with the big project, an addition to our house. If you'd like to keep track of that I invite you to visit my other blog...........http://newlifewy.blogspot.com/...............this is where I talk about the things that go on around our little Wyoming homestead.

Looking forward to this new year, I am planning some new soaps for my Etsy shop, beginning with Valentines Day.........yes an unabashed advertisement, LOL. 3 new soaps are on the horizon so keep a watch out for them at .........Big Horn Mountain Creations .......you can always see new items that have been posted to my shop, on the side bar of this blog.

One of my goals for this year is to make each of my family a new CQed Christmas stocking, so I will be posting my progress on that project. That is 12 stocking, one a month......hummmmmm we shall see how well I do on this.

I have way to many ideas for this year that is for sure, I will be pleased if I can get those that I have mentioned here done. I will also be involved in several RR, along with another of my lists, studying stitches, through Carole Samples book. I have several quilts to finish up and of course to begin.

So along with the new addition, gardening, regular house stuff, and my sewing I might just have a busy year.

May the Lord Bless each of us with health, strength and loads of love of family and friends.

Happy New Year!
